The Missing Piece is the 9th studio album of the group Gentle Giant released in 1977. Following the tour to promote the previous album Interview, the return to disc marks a rather significant change for the group. With the first side exploring different avenues previously overlooked by Gentle Giant such as pop and punk, while the second side is more in the progressive vein of previous albums. It was their last record to carve out a place on the American charts. Already in the instrumentation, we notice a profound change, finished the violin and the cello, exit the xylophone and the vibraphone, farewell the recorder and the saxophone, we become more pop in the choice of instruments used. And for the very first time in the history of Gentle Giant, on the song Wining an electronic drum (drum machine) is used, which the group had always refused before
