Sebastian Hardie / Four Moments (1975)

Sebastain Hardie is one of the rare Australian progressive rock bands of the 70s. The first attempt in this band was made in 1967 by bassist Peter Plavsic and guitarist Graham Ford under the name Sebastian Hardie Blues Band. After this group did not last long, in 1968 Plavsic and Ford sailed into a new band with drummer Alex Plavsic (Peter's brother), keyboardist Anotol Kononowsk and vocalist Joe English. This time 'blues band' was removed from the name. They were very successful as a rock cover band and even became a subgroup of Australian legend Johnny O'keefe. Anotol left the following year to continue his training and the group remained unchanged.

In 1972, Jon left to play Judas in "Jesus Christ Superstar," which led to a successful solo career. Alex also left to join the Tapestry group. This venture would not last until the end of the year. Alex brought in Tapestry keyboardist Steve Dunne for another form of Sebastian Hardie (including Peter and Graham). This time, they started some progressive trials while remaining primarily a cover group.

Things really started to take shape in the next few years, when Mario Millo replaced Ford and Toivo Pilt replaced Dunne. The group focused on an original musical direction and would eventually become Australia's first symphonic progressive group.

In 1975, "Four Moments" was a huge success and "Rosanna" from the album won the award for best instrumental single. "Windchase" was released in 1976 and both albums are considered (by some people) progressive rock classics. At least they stand out in the Australian symphony field.

Shortly after the release of the second album, the group disbanded. Millo and Pilt adopted the name Windchase and released an album. 1977's "Symphinity" fell very close to Hardie's genre, but did not find many listeners.

Pilt began writing music for television advertising. The Plavsic brothers got involved in the business world of the music industry. Millo has had great success as a solo artist and film composer. The original four-man band reunited for some concerts in the early '90s.

Windchase was formed in the mid-70s by Mario Millo (guitar, vocals) and Toivo Pilt (keyboards), two of the former members of the famous Sebastian Hardie, one of the most talented Australian bands of the era. Both albums, "Four moments" (1975) and "Windchase" (1976), released under the name Sebastian Hardie, are considered to be some of the most important works of progressive rock.

If you like Sebastian Hardie's melodic and orchestral approach, you're guaranteed to like Windchase. The Symphinity album is '70s Camel style: Beautiful lyrical melodies, musical emphasis, lyrical guitar and keyboards, a mix of vocal and instrumental sequences, positive lyrics. ..If you are one of those who say they can't find bands like Camel and Genesis, you should definitely try Windchase.
